Survival Gardening 9, food storage economic crash crisis oil

Video #9 in our Survival Gardening series go over soils and soil improvement techniques. Video #10 will follow shortly.

Unless you are keeping a herd of large animals like cows, it’s going to be very hard to keep grow food long term using just what’s “on” the farm or homestead. For a handful of raised beds, half dozen rabbits and similar number of chickens MAY provide enough fertilizer to keep your soil in good shape. But for a serious amount of ground, i.e, enough to truly keep a family of 4 of so in food, it’s going to be next to impossible to produce ALL your fertilizer and soil amendments ON THE FARM or homestead. While I do NOT claim to be an “organic gardener”, most of these soil improvement techniques are similar to those used in organic gardening. As a rule, we do NOT use pesticides on our VEGETABLES. We have been forced to use them on our fruit trees before to SAVE TREES. So understand that just because we don’t do everything “organic” doesn’t mean we slather DDT on the ground everywhere…..

The Garden Police Are Coming.

I have been reading up on House Resolution 875, which our government is trying to pass. this will make anyone who wants to grow a garden for themselves, or for the purpose of sharing with their neighbors, or wanting to make a little extra cash, illegal. You will have to you register your garden with the government, follow all the regulations that they will give, or you will have your land seized, fined and jailed. The idea of an organic garden will be pretty much out, as the government wants to regulate how much chemicals should be added to our garden. All this will be done under the guize of safety for the public.

Seeking Enlightenment through Organic Gardening

The U.S. Agriculture Department says organic farming is one of the fastest growing segments of the nation’s farm economy. The government says organic growers rely on ecologically based practices in cultivating fruits and vegetables and they virtually exclude the use of synthetic chemicals. VOA’s Mike O’Sullivan reports from Muir Beach, California, where one farm combines organic methods with meditative techniques from Asia.

My Organic Garden Tour 5/11/09

A month ago my Mom and I extended my organic garden space and had a planting party to celebrate my birthday. We had to plant in April due to the unpredictable rain showers God has been gifting us with this spring. I wanted to take you all on a little tour of my garden’s progress. My greens are coming in abundance! Oh what a joy! I have just begun to start using them and they taste incredible. Everything here is organically grown from soil to seed and treated with love, fairies and friends, music (outdoor radio and my crazy singing) and loving light - water - and air from God.

I am growing atleast over 50 different types of garden gifts, all which are to be used RAW. This is REAL food. This is how we all should be eating - organical, homegrown or local, seasonal and raw & living foods. I pray over my garden and give gratitude to that which I pick and consume.

I hope you enjoy! I will update as it continues to grow for me. I am growing too many things to list here but if you have a question about something I am growing then I will be happy to tell you if I am growing it and how it is doing, etc.
