Bissel Gardens in the Bronx, NY are 5 organic community gardens supplying organic vegetables and fruits for both the community, farmers markets and homeless shelters. Bissel Gardens is run with the help of numberous volunteers. Russ LeCount is one of the main organizers keeping Bissel Gardens well organized and maintained. Russ is also involved in offering educational tours and a hands on environment to teach people about gardening and construction. Once a dump site for discarded cars, garbage, drugs and prostitution, it is now 2.5 acres of beautiful garden space providing healthy organic food.
